PRESIDENTS

Maulana Mohammad Imran Khan Nadwi Azhari, appointed First President (deceased October 18, 1986 AD)

Hazrat Maulana Mohammad Imran Khan Nadwi Azhari was the founder of Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid. As the founder of this institution, he was elected first President of the Darul Uloom till the day of his death. Visit the founder’s link for details.

Maulana Syed Manzoor Hussain Saroush – President II (deceased May 2, 1997 AD)

Syed Manzoor Hussain’s Saroush belonged to Sarangpur district. He was born in the year 1906 AD in Doraha where his father Tabarak Hussain Sahab was employed at.

He received his early education at Madrasa Sulaymaniyah, from where he obtained degrees in Maulvi Aalim and Fazil Adab.

Later, he was appointed in the office of the Accountant General in 1929 AD/1930 AD.

He served at various positions and later became Secretary of the Royal Endowment (Auqaf-e-Shahi), a position he held on to till 1974 AD.

In 1959 AD, Maulana Imran Khan made him a member of the Executive Council. After some time, he was entrusted with the task of supervising the accounts. Later, Maulana also appointed him as the Deputy President of Darul Uloom, which he held till Maulana’s death.

Maulana has always valued Manzoor Sahab’s intelligence, legal skills and cleanliness and purity of affairs. Success in the legal and judicial affairs of Tajul Masajid is due to Manzoor Sahab’s foresight and well-understanding of the matters. When it came to the construction of the Tajul Masajid, Maulana appointed him as the superintendent of construction, which he successfully completed with working hard day and night.

He was an expert in legal and economic affairs and a legal advisor to the founder of Darul Uloom, but he himself was appreciative of Maulana and his intellectual, legal and administrative abilities. Maulana was also convinced of his legal expertise. Due to his sincerity and love, he became close and trustworthy to Maulana, and after Maulana’s death, he was unanimously elected the president of Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid. Saroush Sahab served as the president from 1986 AD till 1995 AD with full sincerity, dedication and selflessness. With his righteous advice and fruitful actions, Darul Uloom has reached milestones that can never be forgotten.

Maulana Prof. Muhammad Hassan Khan – President III

Maulana Muhammad Hassan Khan was born in the year 1952 AD in Bhopal. He is the youngest son of Maulana and did his early education from Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid itself. He completed his higher secondary education in 1968 and went to Libya for higher studies. From the Islamiya University of Benghazi, Libya, he completed his Lisans (BA) degree in 1972 AD. For his MA degree and subsequent PhD degree, he came back to Bhopal and studied at Barkatullah University, Bhopal.

After returning from Libya, Maulana Hassan Sahab served the Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid for four years, from 1973 AD till 1977 AD for his honorary academic services.

On April 7, 1980 AD he was appointed as a Lecturer in the Department of Arabic at Barkatullah University, his alma mater. The path of success was laid in front of him by God Almighty; he chaired the positions of Reader, Professor, Head of Department and then Dean of Arabic Department with his intellect and wisdom. He led this department to its zenith and held the position of Dean till 2017 AD up until his retirement.

The Professor has travelled to many countries and regularly participated in important conferences domestically and internationally. He has also authored eighteen prominent books in academia. Professor Sahab is an honorary member of various committees and institutions. In recognition of his services to the Arabic language, he was awarded the prestigious President’s Award in 2015 AD.

After graduating from Libya, Professor Hassan Sahab was offered a lucrative job in Libya itself. He had great opportunities in many other good institutions, but he preferred to stay in Bhopal and serve his parents. He, infact, considered it a blessing to stay with his parents and serve them. This was a blessing for Darul Uloom as he got a great chance to see and understand closely the way of working of the late Maulana. In 1982 AD, He was made member of the Executive Council of Darul Uloom. when the Maulana Imran Khan Sahab passed away and Maulana Saroush Sahab was elected President of Darul Uloom, Maulana Hassan Khan was automatically promoted to the post of Deputy President of Darul Uloom. He held this position for 9 years, up until 1995 AD when Maulana Saroush Sahab resigned, citing poor health. In this way, Maulana Hassan became the President of Darul Uloom and chaired the post for four years. He resigned from this post in 1999 AD because of some unpleasant events.

The following works were carried out during Maulana Hassan Sahab’s four-year tenure:

  • Transfer of library to the hall named after Allama Syed Sulaiman Nadwi Sahab
  • Arrangement and repair of dilapidated roof of the mosque
  • Outlining the boundary of Darul Uloom campus
  • Acquisition of lands of former DPI and evacuation of various illegal occupations from Darul Uloom premises.

In addition, his four-year tenure has been famous for the abundance of meetings of the Executive Council and the meetings of the Executive Comittee.

In 2020 AD, after the death of former head of Darul Uloom Hafiz Siraj-ul-Hasan Sahab, Professor Maulana Hassan Sahab was elected once again to the position of President of Darul Uloom. May Allah extend his shadow and extract more works of Deen from him.

Maulana Mohammad Saeed Sahab Mujaddidi – President IV (deceased April 30, 2018 AD)

He belongs to the famous Mujaddidi family and is the second son of the famous Islamic personality Hazrat Shah Muhammad Yaqub Sahab Mujaddidi (R). He was born in Bhopal in the year 1933 AD, memorized the Holy Quran at an early age, studied with famous teachers of the time and was fluent in Arabic, Urdu, Persian and English. He was fluent in Arabic and Urdu prose and poetry.

The late Maulana was his teacher. Since Maulana Saeed was the son of Hazrat Shah Sahab (R), and the late Maulana had immense respect for him, he cared for his student very much. Even Maulana Saeed was greatly devoted to his teacher and respected him a lot. The late Maulana was often mentioned in his Sunday spiritual gatherings. Many times late Maulana had him lead the Eid prayers at Tajul Masajid. He also led the taraweeh prayers during Ramzan time. In October 1961 AD he was elected as the member of Executive Council and also inaugurated many exhibitions of Tajul Masajid.

In the year 1999 AD when Maulana Saeed became the President of Darul Uloom, he protected this sanctity from evil intentions and conserved this national institution. Darul Uloom progressed greatly during his era; many reforms in education and infrastructure were carried out. The various construction works include the construction of a large granary adjacent to the kitchen and the renovation of the minarets, similarly a grand modern style hostel construction was started in the north-eastern ground of the campus, whose foundation stone was laid by his own hands, are some remarkable works of him. He passed away on April 30, 2017 AD at the age of 83 after a brief illness.

Hafiz Muhammad Siraj-ul-Hasan Sahab Mujaddidi – President V (deceased September 2, 2020 AD)

He also belongs to the Mujaddidiyah family. He was the son of Hazrat Shah Muhammad Yaqub Mujaddidi and younger brother of Saeed Mian Mohtarm. He was born in Bhopal in 1940 AD and memorized the Holy Quran at an early age. He was a man of understanding and had sympathy for the community’s social problems.. He was a believer in Dawah to Allah (S) and the way of reformation with wisdom and exhortation. His concern for the education and excellent upbringing of the children was always unwavering and made uncountable efforts in this direction. He wished for welfare for all, irrespective of religion, caste or creed.

In May 2018 AD, he was elected as the member of Executive Council and then in July 2018 AD he was elected as the Fifth President ​of Darul Uloom.

He carried forward the educational and construction work in his short tenure and proved to be an important source in the security and stability of Darul Uloom.

He passed on to greater heavens in September 2020 AD and was buried in the family cemetery at Lal Parade Ground.

Education Secretary Maulana Habib Rehan Khan Nadwi Azhari (deceased 8 August 2009 AD)

He was the elder son of Maulana Muhammad Imran Khan, born on August 13, 1936 AD. He completed his education from beginning till completion of class at Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama where his father was the Principle. He completed his Aalim Degree in the year 1951 AD after that completed Fazilat Degree in 1953 AD and last completed class of takmeel in 1955 AD. He was promising and courageous since childhood and excelled at every stage of education and profession. He was deeply concerned and associated with Nadwa, which was significant in the decisions and policies of Nadwa.

After graduating from Nadwatul Ulama, he returned to Bhopal and edited the magazine “Nishan Manzil ”, the magazine of Tajul Masajid with great expertise and proficiency. At the same time, he performed honorary teaching duties in Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid. He then went to Egypt for higher education in 1958 AD, where he obtained degrees in Specialization in Dawah and Guidance (M.A.) and Specialization in Teaching (M.Ed) from Al-Azhar University. He then did a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic Literature (BA Honors) from Cairo University and a PG Diploma in Modern Arabic Literature.

After graduating from higher education, he served as a teacher of Islamic Sciences and Arabic Language & Literature at the University of Imam Muhammad bin Ali Sannusi in Al-Bayda, Libya, from 1963 AD- 1987 AD, for about 25 years.

In April 1976 AD, he was elected as a member of Executive Council of Darul Uloom and when he returned to India in 1987 AD, he was presented the position of Education Secretary at Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid Bhopal. He was also the Vice President of Darul Uloom for the years 1989 AD to 1994 AD and rendered his services with sincere dedication and with his full capabilities.

Ever since he was a student, he became interested in writing essays in Urdu and Arabic. The editing of Nishan Manzil added to his splendor. Due to his stay in Nadwa and being the son of the late Hazrat Maulana, all the famous scholars and academic eminents have known him. The inexhaustible mind and the endless passion for reading have given new intellectual heights to his knowledge. Whether it is your writing or speech, it is not devoid of boldness and intellectual dignity.

He is the author of 11 books and more than 300 articles which have been published in various magazines both in India and abroad. He is the noble Guest of Honour in dozens of seminars and conferences held worldwide and people all over the world look up to him in reverence. He also held noteworthy positions in the following associations- International Calendar Program Malaysia, Islamic Centre Dewsbury UK, Personal Law Board, All India Consultative Council, Jurisprudence Academy and Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board etc.

In recognition of his invaluable services to the Arabic Language and Literature, the President of the Republic of India awarded him a Certificate of Honor.

He played a significant role in the intellectual evolution of the teachers and students of Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid and in the reform of the curriculum of Darul Uloom.

On August 8, 2009 AD he passed away from this world.

PRINCIPALS

Maulana Syed Hashmat Ali Sahab Principal (Deceased July 7, 1994 AD)

Maulana Syed Hashmat Ali Sahab was born in Muzaffarnagar. His father was Syed Basharat Ali and the family belongs to Sadat Bariha. His grandfather Maulvi Hafiz Abdul Aziz Sahab served in the Finance Department in the reign of Shahjahan Begum. He obtained his initial education from Madarsa Sulaimaniya and then moved to Allahabad University to earn a degree in Maulvi Fazil. He also had a special relationship with Peer Abu Ahmad.

Before becoming the first Vice principal of Darul Uloom, he was a distinguished lecturer of Ahmadiyya University, Bhopal. After the closing down of Ahmadiyya University, he was influenced by the thought of Maulana Muhammad Imran Khan. When the seed of establishment of Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid germinated, he became so closely associated with the late Maulana and served the Darul Uloom with such sincerity that there is no second of him. Whether it is the designing of the education system of Darul Uloom or the construction and repair work, he was the caretaker of all of them. He dedicated himself day and night to the selfless service of Darul Uloom’s success and prosperity. His efforts will always be remembered and it is not unreasonable to say that after the founder of Darul Uloom, Maulana Hashmat Sahab has served Darul Uloom the most.

Maulana Mohammad Noman Khan Sahab Nadwi Principal (Deceased May 8, 1998 AD)

Maulana Mohammad Noman Khan Nadwi was born in Bhopal around 1920 AD. Like his elder brothers Maulana Muhammad Imran Khan and Maulana Muhammad Irfan Khan, he studied from Nadwatul Ulama Lucknow and graduated from there in 1938 AD.

He gained some experience in teaching for some time at Nadwa itself. Then he returned to Bhopal and took care of ancestral land in village Mani Khedi. He also ventured into Business for a while. When Syed Sulaiman Nadwi Sahab visited Bhopal, he served and benefitted from him greatly. When Darul Uloom was shifted from Masjid Shakoor Khan to Tajul Masajid, the need for an able and qualified teacher was fulfilled in the form of Noman Sahab. He was the fifth person to be appointed in Darul Uloom. Initially he gave five teaching hours to the Madarsa but later, all of his time was spent in teaching at Darul Uloom. He was later appointed as the Head of the Library on February 1, 1952 AD.

Maulana Mohammad Noman Khan was the one who was in-charge of the granary of Darul Uloom. The arrangement, storing, procurement and refilling of grain was administered under his supervision. He also participated in arranging charities and allowances for Darul Uloom and his contribution for Darul Uloom’s growth is immense. In 1956 AD, he was unanimously called as the Ambassador of Darul Uloom.

When Maulana Hashmat Ali Sahab completed his services for Darul Uloom, Maulana Noman Sahab was elected Acting vice principal of Darul Uloom on October 11, 1972 AD. By November 1, 1973 AD, he became full-time vice Principal. He had a special affiliation with Khanqahe Mujaddidiya and Tableegi Jamaat. When Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid was started, he became the first teacher to teach Bukhari Sharif. After the death of Maulana Muhammad Imran Khan, he was also a member of the Executive Council of Nadwatul Ulama.

He was laid to his final resting place on May 8, 1998 AD.

Maulana Muhammad Salman Khan Sahab Nadwi Principal (Deceased May 17, 1991 AD)

He was the younger brother of Maulana Muhammad Imran Khan. He was born in Bhopal on January 9, 1928 AD. He received his early education at the famous Ahmadiyya Madrasa, then according to family tradition, went to Nadwatul Ulama Lucknow for higher studies. Due to family issues and ill health of his father, he had to come back to Bhopal. He later resumed his studies at Lucknow University in 1941 AD and completed his Aalim Degree. When his father passed away, he went to Nadwa Lucknow and stayed with his brother and connected with the eminent teachers of the Madarsa.

He returned to Bhopal in 1943 AD and took care of his ancestral property. At the same time, he joined the Department of Scholarships at the Bhopal State Office and performed this service for about 8 years.

When the work of preaching gained general popularity in 1947 AD, he also joined in this work and remained associated with this work with Hazrat Maulana till the end of his life.

When the first Jamaat from Bhopal travelled to Saudi Arabia on July 30, 1952 AD, Maulana Salman Sahab was the head or ‘Director’ of the Jamaat. This journey proved to be fruitful for him as he gained excellent command over Arabic language. His oratory skills also got polished and he further improved his next Jamaati expeditions. This also paved the way for various conferences and seminars for him. Initially, he faced trouble during translation but later on he tackled this obstacle with his dedication and hard work. He became the nearest and dearest of late Hazrat Maulana Yusuf Sahab director of tableegi jamaat and he called him for speeches in his renowned gatherings.

He entered the folds of Darul Uloom by first becoming the incharge of Dormitories and the Kitchen of Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid on May 20, 1956 AD. He worked happily to assist Master Aqeel Sahab in the tedious task of refilling granaries in 1961 AD. On the insistence of Hazrat Maulana, he travelled to Mumbai in 1962 AD for a fundraising campaign and was highly successful in it.

In 1971 AD when the task of completing the construction of Tajul Masajid restarted, Maulana Salman Sahab was the Supervisor to overlook the magnanimous project. He fulfilled this noble obligation with full vigour and concern. He went out in unprecedented ways and worked day and night so that the mosque was completed. His efforts are unforgettable and his devotion to Darul Uloom is truly plausible.

In acknowledgment of his sincere efforts and hardwork, he was appointed as vice principal of Darul Uloom in 1979 AD and he held this post till 1988 AD.

Proving his mettle in the field of construction, the task of Masjid Shakoor Khan was also entrusted to him. After the death of Hazrat Maulana, he was elected as the chairman of the committee of Masjid Shakoor Khan and he held this post till the end.

In 1975 AD when Nadwatul Ulama Lucknow completed 85 golden years and a grand program was organised, Hazrat Maulana was the head of the arrangements. To assist him, Maulana Salman stood next to him like a rock and was in the forefront of all management and organization.

When he retired from his duties, he went to stay with his son, Maulana Muhammad Raees Khan Sahab Nadwi. On May 17, 1991 AD, he passed away at this house due to a cardiac arrest.

He was a person of virtues in character and manners. He was very elegant, humble, hospitable and generous and his virtues of being helpful to everyone will always be fondly remembered.

Maulana Mohammad Luqman Khan Nadwi Azhari Principal (Deceased July 5, 2002 AD)

He was the youngest brother of Maulana. He was born in 1940 AD and was very young when his father passed away. Continuing the family tradition, he also went to Nadwatul Ulama Lucknow for his studies and completed Aalimiyat and Fazilat in 1958 AD and 1960 AD respectively. He also travelled to Egypt to obtain several degrees from Al-Azhar University and Cairo University. In 1963 AD he became involved in teaching in the Libyan city of Al-Bayda and served there for a good long duration. He was made a member of the Executive Council of Darul Uloom Bhopal in 1976 AD and when he returned to his homeland in 1987 AD, he entered Darul Uloom as a teacher. In 1988 AD he became the vice principal and held this position up until 1997 AD.

He excelled in teaching Arabic, and was known for his good humour and family spirit of serving the people.

On July 5, 2002 AD, he met his Almighty while addressing Friday sermon at Masjid Shakoor Khan.

Hafiz Mohammad Mahmood Khan Sahab Principal (Deceased January 19, 1998 AD)

He was the eldest son of Maulana Noman Khan Sahab and nephew of Hazrat Maulana. He was born in Bhopal in 1940 AD and memorized the Quran at Darul Uloom Tajul Masjid. He matriculated from Aligarh Muslim University in 1963 AD. He became associated with the Hifz Department of Darul Uloom in 1959 AD and continued to oversee other parallel tasks at the Madarsa. He graduated from Vikram University, Ujjain and was appointed vice principal in 1997 AD. He fulfilled this role up until his death.

He was performing ablution for Asr prayer on January 19, 1998 AD, when he died of a sudden heart attack.

Janab Mohammad Javed Miyan Sahab Kanje Bhai (Deceased July 15, 2023 AD)

He was born in Bhopal on August 14, 1959 AD. His father Abdul Majeed Sahab, also known as Kanje Bhai was a well-known personality of Bhopal.

He has been associated with his father’s business from the very beginning and with his hard work, dedication, honesty, ethics and high morale, he is one of the big businessmen not only in Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh but also in India.

He has been associated with the work of Dawah and preaching since a young age and plays a key role in the organizing and managing the Bhopal Ijtima. He is an active member of several institutions and committees and continues to receive blessings from the elderly.

He was elected a member of the Executive Council of Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid in 2000 AD. He had a special relationship with the founder of Darul Uloom Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Imran Khan Nadwi Azhari and former education secretary Maulana Habib Rehan Khan Nadwi Azhari. He has also been a close ally of former Director Hazrat Maulana Mohammad Saeed Mian Mujaddidi and Hafiz Mohammad Sirajul Hasan Sahab Mujaddidi. In 2017 AD, he was appointed as the Secretary of Management for Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid. He is actively involved in the construction, renovation and maintenance works of Darul Uloom Tajul Masajid as well as in the expansion of income sources for Darul Uloom.
